How to convert jpg to doc
by Kyle on November 11, 2009
Problems:
- You are working with scanned documents to extract the text from the image but you can’t do it.
- You’re working with your research and you found a jpg file which you need to extract the text from it
- You need to extract the text from a jpeg file with foreign characters which you need in your homework
Solution:

There’s a tool which you can use and it’s called newOCR. OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition and it extracts the text from the images you upload. You don’t need to install anything in your desktop, all you need is an internet connection and an image ready to be uploaded in the web tool. Here’s a good look of it’s features
- Unlimited uploads, no registration, 100% secure!
- Layout analysis (multi-column text recognition)
- Multilingual support for 29 languages: Bulgarian, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.
- Image files (JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF) up to 5 MB
- Multipage PDF documents up to 20 MB
- Download results as a text file or Word document
What’s really cool about this one is that it’s free and the support for foreign languages works like magic.

these online ocr services are very risky. it will be difficult to transfer big files over internet. and where confidentiality comes in, the best way is to use desktop ocr software like http://products.softsolutionslimited.com/img2ocr/index.htm

Although I understand the previous commenter’s concerns about large documents, I think many individuals are using on-line OCR service largely for small, quick projects. My favorite free online OCR service that I recently found is a beta version offered by Ricoh Innovations. I would encourage people to check it out by visiting: http://beta.rii.ricoh.com/betalabs/content/document-conversion
