How to reveal a short url to it’s original form

Url Shortening services are very common now and it’s mostly used in twitter and other social networking services to make long urls easy to remember. Despite it’s contribution, we cannot hide the fact that malicious individuals use their service to lead you in untrusted web content. These urls could harm your computer by infecting your pc a virus or perhaps steal your private data such as passwords and email by leading you to phishing sites. Here are some good websites which reveals a short url to it’s original form and help you get rid of phishing sites, virus and malicious contents.

Untiny is a cool web application packed with useful addons which you can use to your instant messengers and browsers. The main site leads you to an input box where you can put a shortened url and extract it to reveal to original one. Untiny is still in beta form but they support 223 url-shortening services. Their Add-ons service is also worth looking, it consists of bookmarklets, firefox addons and useful IM plugins. Another cool web tool worth checking is Unhid. It works really great too like untiny which decodes shortened urls. Right now it does have a bookmarklet which you can find in their site. It’s a new service and perhaps some shortening url-services might not work. But still it’s a great alternative to untiny. But if you want an antivirus software with support to link scanning then you can just download the latest version of AVG free edition which plugs an addon to your browser to check search results and links with malicious contents. Here’s a good video for an overview of it’s service.
