The idea of shutting down your computer remotely have been discussed a long time back in this blog. Although possible to shutdown your pc using the previous method, it’s still a tedious task by completing preliminary setups to meet the requirements of remotely shutting it down. The good thing is that there’s an easy way to amaze your friends and what’s good about this is that it’s so helpful that you can do more than just shutting down. You can download a file, set on stand by mode or lock your workstation.

If you’re still in doubt then perhaps knowing that “Tweet My PC” exists will clear things up. Tweet My Pc is a free application where you can download to integrate your twitter account in doing a couple of interesting things with your pc in a remote location.

Tweet My PC is a free application where you can download here. It’s an application specifically for windows and mac. Once downloaded you can install the application and input some account details which includes your twitter account and email (gmail only). Tweet My PC will function only with an internet connection. It will scan your Twitter Stream for available commands that is recognizable by the application and execute it immediately once detected. Here’s a list of command that you can send to your twitter stream that is recognizable by Tweet My Pc.

  1. Lock - locks windows system
  2. Physical Memory – Returns the physical memory of your pc

So how do you control your pc remotely using this? There are some tricks of controlling your pc without directly using twitter. If you have a mobile phone and your country supports mobile twitting then it’s the easiest way to control your pc.Posterous, a blogging platform which supports twitter integration is another trick. Just send an email to twitter@posterous.com with the proper commands and it will directly forward it to your twitter account. Smart phones which supports WiFi can also be used to access directly to Twitter. FutureTweets is a twitter application which you can use to schedule to post a twit in a predetermined time.

The launch of V2 of Tweet My Pc opened up great ideas to further expand pc usage using twitter. I think Tweet My Pc is such a good candidate for an award in open applications.
