New Macbook Pro Price in the Philippines is ridiculous?
by Kyle on March 4, 2011
iStudio, one of the premium resellers of apple products in the Philippines got their site updated with the price of new Macbook pro’s unveiled. It may sound good news to everyone wanting a Mac but it seems that it’s going to be a nightmare as it’s overpriced in comparison to original US figures. For some with fat wallets, I know that it won’t be an issue but for those who wants a bargain then this might give them a headache.
Price difference for the products is fairly high and it’s something worth pondering since when you compare it to iPad (1st gen) the difference is not that big. If you have any ideas on how you can get a bargain by any means (Grey Market), you can share it up in the comments section. For the price overview here’s the list of local price and it’s US counterpart (multiplied by 43). If you have a relative living in the US then i think it’s a good idea to purchase the macbook abroad instead of here, as you can see clearly the difference.
13-inch Macbook Pro (2.3 ghz)
PH price – Php 61,990
US price – Php 51,557
13-inch Macbook Pro (2.7 ghz)
PH price – Php 76,990
US price – Php 61,457
15-inch Macbook Pro (2.0 ghz quad-core)
PH price – Php 91,990
US price – Php 77,357
15-inch Macbook Pro (2.2 ghz quad-core)
PH price – Php 112,990
US price – Php 94,557
17-inch Macbook Pro (2.66 ghz quad-core)
PH price – 126,900
US price – 107,457
So far iStudio is the only apple reseller with updates on the new macbook pros. Power mac center on the other hand has no news yet on what’s their take on the new price of apple babies. Aside from the new Macbook’s, local media responded on iPad’s introduction as it’s been featured to local TV shows which I’ve seen to several TV channels
We all know how good iPad2 is and without a doubt it will come in apple resellers too. Question is, how will the price go? If we’ll follow the trend then this will be priced similar to the new Macbook pros. I’m not sure on how this will end but we’ll keep you updated when we heard news on it’s local pricing.
For the meantime if you’re looking for a laptop that would substitute for a Mac then Sony Vaio YB is good enough to capture your attention. I’ve been seeing ads outside of sm Megamall and I think they’re funding it well. Sony Vaio YB is half the price of the cheapest Macbook pro so I think this would appeal for the general public if budget is a big issue to you.

Yes, there’s a big difference in the prices. But they do give big discounts also.
