I was thinking if Google was playing on this one but realizing that the feature has been in G-Labs for almost a year now ruled out my suspicions about this idea. And I think the word “Idea” is not the proper term for use since it’s officially launch last December 7 according to Gmail’s Blog. The technology is now existing and it’s all thanks to Gears and the programmers behind Gmail’s offline mode. It requires an installation of Offline Gmail and that’s where Gears will be installed in your computer. After that, you’ll be able to use the usual Gmail interface and use the basics of reading, organizing, searching and writing without an internet connection. Of course you definitely need an internet connection for the normal updating. The good thing about this one is to have you be reconnected if ever your internet connection is down or you have some trouble with your crappy internet connection. So the question now is how do we activate this thing? Ok… Here’s how
- Click the “Settings” link in the top-right corner of Gmail.
- Click the “Offline” tab.
- Select “Enable Offline Mail for this computer.”
- Click “Save Changes” and follow the directions from there.
