With google’s effort in making the web faster, the chromium team has been working with a new web protocol called SPDY. Pronouned “Speedy”, it is designed specifically for minimizing latency through features such as multiplexed streams, request prioritization and HTTP header compression. It’s still in an early stage of research so the success of the project is still not assured.
The team has been simulating conditions tested in their lab by downloading 25 websites. A dramatic speed increased of 55% showed encouraging results which could trigger a change of internet technology.Google once again is on it’s way changing the face of internet with their innovations. If successful this could replace the popular HTTP protocol which flourished in 1996. If you are interested in SPDY , Documentation and sourcecode is now open in public.
