Do you still remember godswar online on Facebook? I blogged about it a couple of months back because it’s known to be an MMO running on your Desktop which was ported to Facebook. Now, it’s Maple Story who’s been doing the same thing just like godswar and it’s rebranded with an expansion – “MapleStory Adventures”.

I’ve tried playing the game and it appears that it’s not running officially yet. It’s on Open Beta phase right now and you can only select two classes, Warrior and Magician. So far graphics is a bit jittery compared to the desktop version but I’m not too sure if it’s because of the game or my internet connection just sucks. But still, the game is totally playable with similar appeal to the desktop one.

I’ll be spending a couple of hours on Maplestory adventures this weekend and try to give a detailed review about it. First impressions about the game is that it will work! At the time of this writing it has a 91K likes but that’s too shallow to judge if it will end up successfully. If they fixed those lags then provide timely updates to fix some issues then MapleStory adventures will surely be a hit!. But then again, I would mostly play in my Desktop because you have a much better control and it’s speedy for me.

In my opinion, it’s a good move by nexon to introduce the game. Marketing wise it will be helpful but in the long run it will go in a steady decline. Things might change a bit because of the improvement of technology but it’s way too long to judge it. So far good move for Nexon on trying this out.

We all know, competition is getting really tough right now for Facebook as Google+ is starting to gain traction in the public. Right now there’s roughly 18+ million registered users despite the fact that it’s only running in test mode. Imagine if this will be released in public this July 31 then that would be a traffic upsurge for Google’s next bread and butter in social aspect.

Anyway, I hope they roll back the old chat interface cause some are really pissed about it. It’s just that it’s not user friendly and is not very helpful in finding out friends to chat with. It’s cool to some, but for the general public it just plain sucks.

Setting up Video Calling in Facebook

Go to their video calling page here.
Make sure that you are using the latest version of your browsers here’s a helpful page.
Click the “Get started” Button and you’ll be prompted immediately
Click “Save” if prompted to download the video calling plugin.
Open the downloaded file to install it. It would take several minutes to install the plugin.

After downloading you can now make a call by visiting their page and looking for a call button. Or by clicking the call button in the facebook chat. Here’s some images to help. There are just some details that the game needs to be polished in order for it to be a successful game similar to pokemon. Here are some detailed points which I think Influence the most in the long run.

1. Game doesn’t have the explorative nature which pokemon have. You are just stuck with all the battles in a static place. What happens is that it doesn’t categorize itself as an rpg.
2. The skill improvement is good but the waiting time for it to be used  is kinda crappy. This would bore a lot of players and it will give them great disadvantage in battles. They should have place the skill waiting time if their monsters are on high levels.
3. The Game needs a website and it needs a repository of all the monsters that you can collect. The excitement of a Pokemon game is that you are geared in looking for what your monster will look like and what monsters are yet to be captured.
4. Although the graphics is kinda good it’s not yet of best quality. It’s in the average though and it’s not gonna last especially that there are some games out there that uses smooth streaming. Godswar Online is an example to this.
5. They have to put an all original feature in the game. Something that distinguishes it different from Pokemon. In case the game gets popular then there’s the chance of Nintendo filing a lawsuit against them.

Mino Monsters has so much potential but they need to get things done quickly as competition is really tough. Facebook now is more than just a social networking site and is considered a platform. If Mino Monsters gets ahead of this game then it’s going to be a million dollar game in the future.

Anyway, if it affects your social experience you can still use the old Facebook photo viewer easily. All you have to do is to click the picture you want to view and when it’s loaded with the black screen on the background just press F5 to refresh the page and it would redirect you easily to the old photo viewer. Anyway in my opinion, the new Facebook photo viewer is really cool as it makes up with faster loading time and wouldn’t redirect you to your friend’s page when you click a photo in your social wall. I think Facebook just need to redesign the black background running as it’s conceived more like an eye-sore than an enhancement for better social experience.

So is this red flag for Yahoo? According to this, Internet giant Yahoo is having a rough time recovering with it’s losing revenue despite doubled earnings due to cost-cutting measures and layoffs. It may be too early to conclude since the company have a pretty solid marketing strategies on different regions. Here in the Philippines I’ve seen many users using Yahoo Messenger as their primary Instant Messaging Platform and most still use their email service in registering user accounts online. But still, Yahoo and Google offers very similar services and it’s pretty much the same on what happened to MySpace having Facebook connect on their site. It’s like admitting defeat to me… Let’s just see what impact this brings on the company in the future.

Here’s a good example exercised in this youtube video on how to install and use firesheep to hack a Facebook account. So if you’re one of the users who loves connecting on public WiFi then you better think twice in accessing your social networking accounts. It’s better to have those mobile broadbands working on your laptops than risking yourself over free internet

Ivan Padilla – leader of  carjacking and robbery syndicate is now known dead. But before the highly controversial death, Police used Facebook and Twitter account that leads to arrest to other members of the gang. Police have said that they’ve been using coded or should i say “Military termed words” to communicate their criminal intentions and plans before they execute them. One of the members, Ryan Francisco spilled the beans and told the police his twitter and facebook account which they used to lure out other members to frame them up.

It’s hard to tell on when will facebook implement their new line of photo tagging which automatically tags your friends in your picture. Facebook’s photo tagging  is one of the most used feature on their platform. Power users who maintains large collection of albums will be happy if facebook’s new line of photo product is successful on it’s release. If you’re part of the group which owns large albums this will be good news for you as this will decrease the tedious amount of time in tagging names in pictures.

I just wonder what privacy measures will d implement if ever their product under test will be successful. It will of course generate positive feedback but for some users who values their private life then this is a big factor. Anyway Facebook is smart enough on dealing this concerns but imperfections can’t be avoided. If you are techy enough on how the system works then it’s not a problem for you. But for people who hardly knows how to use user settings then it’s a big problem for them. Let’s just see how facebook’s photo tagging matures and see what people’s reaction are.
