We all know how sucky our internet connection speed when compared to other countries giving an average of 1mb/sec high speed connection by our ISPs. First I’ll be quoting “Japan” and “Korea” to be one of those that provide superb high speed broadband connection that they even leave the US in the dust. But just when I’m searching the blogosphere I noticed that corporate connections are just too awesome to work with specially when you exceed the 100mb/sec mark from speedtest. It just saddens me that there’s no such services that exists here in the country. This just indicates that we are light years away from using high class technologies. =(

I have to say thanks for TNW where I got this speed connection awesomeness and by the way here’s the amazingly 500mb+/sec that Google employees are so proud of. It’s 500x faster than our average connection and that could be a huge baseline from the technology that our ISPs use.For the same reason if you were asking that I’m comparing apples and oranges to Company and average user, my current company where I work with does not give that speedy download speed. If I’m not mistaken Globe Telecoms is our ISP provider but still gives the usual 2mb connection in my estimates.

Anyway another interesting find is when a commenter which is a probable Apple employee displayed it’s download speed which surpassed Google by 200mb/s download speed. So that would give them this kind of connection. Now I’m wondering on when will we get such speed improvement in our case. But I think most users won’t care that much since they just use Facebook and the usual social networking applications on their daily use. The only thing that would care for this issue would be the power users and the geeks. Hope the marriage of PLDT and Digitel would be the start of a healthy competition against Globe and get the high speed internet connection we want.

I was using my yahoo email to log on my Facebook account so I wanted to check the status of my inbox if it’s drowning with spam and notifications. But I was a bit surprised to what I’ve discovered on the login page. What the heck were those Facebook and Google connect doing on the login page of Yahoo mail? Yes, you can use yahoo services now without going through the tedious process of registering a new account by using your existing Facebook or Google account. Now that would be a pretty solid blow to internet giant, it’s much like admitting defeat with those two highly traffic sites being used to connect through their service.

So is this red flag for Yahoo? According to this, Internet giant Yahoo is having a rough time recovering with it’s losing revenue despite doubled earnings due to cost-cutting measures and layoffs. It may be too early to conclude since the company have a pretty solid marketing strategies on different regions. Here in the Philippines I’ve seen many users using Yahoo Messenger as their primary Instant Messaging Platform and most still use their email service in registering user accounts online. But still, Yahoo and Google offers very similar services and it’s pretty much the same on what happened to MySpace having Facebook connect on their site. It’s like admitting defeat to me… Let’s just see what impact this brings on the company in the future.

They’ve removed such sites on their auto suggest and google instant tools though there are some . I’ve tried searching for rapidshare and it didn’t work but file sharing and video sites like megavideo and filefactory are still on it.

The Impact is not that big if you’re going to ask me. But the message is clear, Google’s taking some steps on fighting piracy now that they started small simple steps on covering the traces to most prominent piracy hubs. Worst case happens if they started altering their algorithm and start blocking sites serving pirated contents. That would be pretty devastating to small businesses here in the Philippines since I’ve seen massive pirated movies which sells like pancakes in the streets. Anyway that would be good for webmasters if you know what I mean…

I posted an article before on how you can integrate google calendar with your mobile phone and get sms subscriptions to your events and schedules. Now I’m going to show you on how you can use Google calendar to do a good combo with your facebook account. We will be importing your Facebook Events and Birthdays for great fillers in your Google Calendar.

You can manually input your facebook friend’s birthday in your google calendar or you can do it smartly by using fbCAL. One of the my favorite applications in facebook because it associates your facebook calendar to one of the popular event planning, calendar software and web applications available. So if you don’t like the feel of using Google Calendar then you can choose other applications in which you can import the data.

First go to fbcal’s official website and click the button “Create your calendars Now“. Use your facebook account to login in fbCal and allow it to access your profile information and offline access.

When you’re in the main application you can choose two options. export your events and export the birthdays. Click the corresponding logo of Google Calendar and you’re done. There are times when fbCal’s export function doesn’t work so just download a copy of it and import the iCalendar File in your Google Calendar by going to Settings -> Calendar Tab -> Import Calendar. Choose the Downloaded iCalendar File then wait for this confirmation to show. If unsuccessful repeat the import process until you got it right.

Missing certain events? Being forgetful in greeting your friend’s birthday? Always not on time with your date? I think what you need is a carefully organized event calendar with the help of Google .

We will not be using Google’s search engine. Instead, we will use it’s Google Calendar as an SMS notification tool to keep you notified in certain events, birthday greetings and other things related to that. I’m assuming you now have a Google account to be used in Google Calendar. Log in using your account and get familiar with the interface.

The Main interface is like a big spreadsheet where you will input your scheduled greetings and plans. If you don’t understand a thing in the spreadsheet then perhaps it’s defaulted to weekly mode. You can adjust it by clicking the daily tab above the spreadsheet in the upper right corner of it. You can then click the spreadsheet to add your plans or use the links in the upper left corner for an added degree of customization.

When you are done with the preliminaries all you have to do is integrate Google calendar to your mobile phone. Click the Settings link in the upper right corner and go to mobile setup. Carefully input the fields needed and wait for the confirmation code to be sent in your mobile account. Submit your mobile code and enable SMS notifications to your events and plans. As of my experience Google does not charge you of the sms sent to you, so you can abuse the service without worry any fees.

Before I start my guide I have to apologize first for a big delay in my blog updates. If you’ve been a reader before you probably noticed that I usually update my blog everyday but for the past days I’ve been busy finishing my new blog theme which is now half finished. Anyway this article is about the google toolbar which I just explored for the past days when goo.gl url shortening service is launched. I’m still new in using google toolbar and I haven’t explored all of the features of it but the short time of using the service is enough to have an informative description on what the toolbar is capable of.

The most important thing about getting the toolbar is that it makes your internet life easier when you use most of google services, these includes gmail, calendar, reader, search etc. The services is just a click away and you’ll be connected in using them in a matter of seconds. So if you depend most on google services then you have the best reason in getting the toolbar here.

Google Toolbar is available for Internet Explorer and Firefox web browser which is a big disappointment to me since I’m starting to fall in love with chrome. Installation is relatively easy, just follow the instructions which follows after you visited the official web page and you are ready to go. Once installed the very first thing that you should do is to sign in using your google account so connecting to their services is just a click away. After that you can look for the button with plus sign ( + ) to start adding your favorite google services. When the plus sign is clicked you’ll be presented with the list of mostly used services. But the search form is where it comes handy when you can’t find the service you are looking for. Simply click the logos returned by search and you are done installing the service in the toolbar. It would take a couple of minutes to finish your initial setup and after that you’ll get addicted in using google toolbar in your favorite web browser ( IE or FireFox).

The search box in the far left of the toolbar is good for finding important files and data stored in your google account. Services such as Google Docs and Images are mostly populated with information and searching their archives will just be a child’s play when you use the google toolbar. You just need to configure the toolbar so that you can choose on which google service it will be searched. Clicking the arrow inside the search button will lead you to pick which google service you want to be searched and you can start typing in the search box and look for the file you want to find.

The Autofill feature of the toolbar is really helpful too. It’s much like roboform with less features but it’s more than enough if you are lazy to fill up forms when you are signing up for a membership in any website. The Autofill button is hidden if the toolbar is crowded with buttons, you can access it by clicking the arrow near AutoLink. Setup your profile in the autofill window and save it and you can start filling web forms easily.

Most of the services in Google Toolbar are pretty straight forward. I mentioned here in this article the ones I love best when using it. If you’re a webmaster then you can do more with the toolbar with the share and pagerank button. But If you’re the casual internet user then the things I mentioned above will value the most.

And I think the word “Idea” is not the proper term for use since it’s officially launch last December 7 according to Gmail’s Blog. The technology is now existing and it’s all thanks to Gears and the programmers behind Gmail’s offline mode. It requires an installation of Offline Gmail and that’s where Gears will be installed in your computer. After that, you’ll be able to use the usual Gmail interface and use the basics of reading, organizing, searching and writing without an internet connection. Of course you definitely need an internet connection for the normal updating. The good thing about this one is to have you be reconnected if ever your internet connection is down or you have some trouble with your crappy internet connection. So the question now is how do we activate this thing? Ok… Here’s how

Click the “Settings” link in the top-right corner of Gmail.

Click the “Offline” tab.

Select “Enable Offline Mail for this computer.”

Click “Save Changes” and follow the directions from there.

If you’ve been blogging for so long and you haven’t used google trends then this is a good article that will serve as a guide on how you can use google trends to leverage your blogging skills.

I usually use google trends to compare different keywords entered in google. You probably know how important keyword research when you are picking the right title for your articles and google Trends is a big help for me. Basically when I wrote an article I pick the title based on the google trends result. If there’s a graph from a given keyword I choose those keywords and I just make the title more interesting by adding catchy words.

To make it more interesting you can input multiple phrases separated by commas to compare keywords with a higher search volume index. A graph with higher search volume index means more people are inputting those keywords in google search. I always choose keywords with higher search volume index with less competition in search engines. Before I forget there’s a list of hottest keywords for the day in the main page of Google Trends and affiliate marketers use those keywords to sell their product and redirect them to their money page. Usually when you’re out of ideas you can select the keywords in Google Hot Trends since they are mostly searched during the said date. There’s also a google trend for websites which displays an estimate of the traffic in your site. People say that it’s pretty accurate and has similar alexa traffic results. But take note that you have to be logged in your account to view the Daily Unique Visitors estimate in the y-axis. But it only shows results to sites with high traffic rankings so if you’re site does not show a graph then it means you got a low traffic site.

An update of Google Chrome Blog confirmed that Google Chrome Operating System has been released today. A youtube video showed during a conference demonstrates some of Chrome OS functionality. From the looks of the video it’s much like a google chrome browser but with much improved performance in terms of functionality. Applications like word processors, spreadsheets are not installed in your computer and all data basically are stored in the internet. So if you are thinking about how you will do your office work then you will definitely depend on some of Google’s Application like Google Docs. From what I see the application menu which you’ll see in the upper left of the User Interface is the starting point in which you can access the applications in Chrome OS. They also highlight Panels, a persistent window in which you can use to help you manage your applications without affecting your internet activity(eg. viewing videos, reading ebooks).

The way I see it Chrome Os will definitely succeed in the future. But today people will still choose the classic operating system. Web applications today are fastly evolving to have a look and feel of a desktop application and in the future more of the people will depend on these web apps. Google again, will be the first in revolutionizing internet experience with Chrome OS leading the way.

With google’s effort in making the web faster, the chromium team has been working with a new web protocol called SPDY. Pronouned “Speedy”, it is designed specifically for minimizing latency through features such as multiplexed streams, request prioritization and HTTP header compression. It’s still in an early stage of research so the success of the project is still not assured.

The team has been simulating conditions tested in their lab by downloading 25 websites. A dramatic speed increased of 55% showed encouraging results which could trigger a change of internet technology.Google once again is on it’s way changing the face of internet with their innovations. If successful this could replace the popular HTTP protocol which flourished in 1996. If you are interested in SPDY , Documentation and sourcecode is now open in public.
