The Digitel acquisition by PLDT was one the things that keeps me occupied through out the day but what’s really running in my mind was Sun Cellular’s place in the local mobile industry. Honestly, I kept thinking of what would be the effect of this if the merging of Smart and Sun will be beneficial for the consumers. Suns’s greatest strength would be it’s very good offers in terms of prepaid promos and postpaid deals. Where Smart’s strength lies on it’s unmatched nationwide coverage. For the idealist and optimist one can say, it’s good that this 2 should merge as they supplement each of their special points. But that’s not the case when you’re running big business here and in my opinion chances are slim that the aftermath for the consumers will go for the good.

Sun Cellular goes wrong

It’s either Sun Cellular will overshadow Smart’s system or its the other way around. It’s highly unlikely that they will supplement each other. Although current news states that PLDT management will leave Digitel the way it is for a healthy competition then that would be superficial if you’re going to ask me. This is business guys and getting a major share in a company then saying that “we’ll just leave Company X the way it is” is dumbfoundedly stupid. According to my source, Transaction is not yet close for the two but once it’s finalize it’s all on Manny Pangilinan’s control now. There’s just two ways in which Sun could go to and it’s either take it’s own route or follow Smart’s very own style (which sucks in my opinion).

A Challenge for Globe

For Globe, It’s not too late. Objectively speaking, Globe has the best balance compared to other networks. It’s like Sun Cellular and Smart is in the fringe having their special points yet Globe is in the middle having the sweet spot. Best service is what they offer and Globe has it. If you’re going to ask me, Globe has the potential in gaining a huge portion in the local mobile industry because their quality of service in my opinion is the best among the three. I think Globe needs some refreshers on their promos and deals and adopt Sun’s Style. There are too many loopholes in their system and that’s frustrating for the end user.

All I can say is that, it’s a race of who can deliver the service which appeals most in general public. I’d say Sun has the best formula which is the reason why they have increase of subscribers for the last quarter. They just lack the infrastructure to sustain it. If Globe is willing to adopt their system then that would be sure win of course and that is also difficult on their end.

I’ve seen this Alcatel One Touch Net in SM North Edsa and I was fascinated with it’s style and form. It’s QWERTY keypad has similarity of a blackberry phone it’s just missing the depth of the keypad which makes the feel very different. People criticize the the One Touch Net more like a china phone but contrary to that Alcatel has much better quality and functionality which I remember way back in old school days. Another cool thing about this Alcatel One Touch Net phone is that it has integrated yahoo apps so if you’re using more yahoo services (Mail, Messenger, Search, Homepage, Social Pulse, Address Book, Calendar) then this phone is perfect to you. This could have been much better if Facebook and Twitter is integrated since it’s much used compared to yahoo apps. Another cool thing about One Touch Net is that it has a different Operating System. At first I was thinking that it’s using Symbian but it doesnt’t. It’s my first time of hearing Nucleus OS but it’s responsive and fast when I browse the phone.

What’s missing on One Touch Net aside from facebook and twitter app is WiFi which is pretty common to latest mobile handsets. It comes with 2.0 mega pixel camera which is pretty decent enough in taking good pictures. Initial memory is 80mb but you can expand it too 8gb using microSD card. I still don’t know if you’ll be charged with a fee by using the integrated apps. I’m thinking if it’s the same like the blackberry which doesn’t charge you if you availed their data plans since other carriers provide free lifetime use when using the integrated apps. A good example would be this carrier in the video below which provides a free lifetime use of the services in the One Touch Net phone.

Microsoft’s Bing now has a mobile counterpart. Users can now experience simple functionality of a mobile search lite similar to bing which is optimized for smart phones. The interface looks really neat and is definitely perfect for small and big fingers for smart browsing. You can set up the search settings options for safe searching to easily filter sexually explicit text and images.

For some reasons the only devices that work with it are the iPhone/iPod Touch, T-Mobile G1, Samsung Omnia, Verizon Imagio and the Zune Hd. Support for other phones is still not available but are now in the process for porting in other devices. Take note that touch interface is only available to users in U.S.

If iPhone is for smartphones, Mac Book is for laptops, iPod is for Music, then what is for TV? Sony Bravia? nahhh!!!! it’s FLO TV. The suggested retail price is around $250 yet this is still not final, anyway you can sign up for preorders on FLOTV.com. FLO TV is the TV that goes where you go in other words it’s walking entertainment. Now you can view you favorite news, live telecasts, sports show and you won’t get pissed by your kid to hurry up cause she’ll be missing Dora’s adventure. The only thing that you’ll be needing is the right file loaded to the device and leave the work to technical support to configure what channel you want to have.
